The Georgian Group Giles Worsley Award 2014 - new building in a Georgian context

Following the success of a previous development for Nadler Hotels, and after a period of negotiation, we were appointed the construction partner for the flagship project in Carlisle Street in London’s busy Soho.

We provided advice and assistance in the negotiation of the party wall awards which were necessary to develop the building. This involved the development of scaffolding plans and method statements for the construction of the building, as well as the design of temporary works detailing how the demolition and support of adjacent buildings was to be carried out. We established and maintained contact throughout the works with the adjacent properties and minimised disruption to neighbours throughout the project.

The new 81 bedroom boutique hotel was created from merging two buildings, including demolition of an office building at 10 - 12 Carlisle Street and marginally increasing the size of the existing basement. The new five-storey concrete frame building incorporated Portland stone and face brick cladding to the external envelope to blend in with the architecture of the area. The building at 21 - 25 St Anne’s Court was retained, with internal and external alterations to convert the upper levels for hotel use, while the basement and ground floor remained as commercial accommodation. The fit-out was to a high specification befitting the hotel’s flagship status, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and the latest media installations.
