Warehouse W, London

This project was the conversion of an 1883 tobacco warehouse in London’s Royal Victoria Docks into 36 high quality warehouse apartments, including installation of a new glazed extension and eight-person lift. The project was overseen by English Heritage and a number of listed architectural features were retained including internal brickwork, which was sandblasted to give exposed brickwork finishes, exposed timber beams and joists. Some structural improvements were required including underpinning to remedy current subsidence, the introduction of concrete floors to improve both fire and acoustic values, and replacement of the existing roof. The design also included the introduction of mezzanine floors and windows to the third floor.
