Aquabella, Lymington

This unusual project in Lymington was the conversion of an existing warehouse into an indoor warm water aquaculture facility for the farming of Barramundi. This facility is the first of its kind in the country and is the largest warm water indoor fish farm in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to its unique science, specialist plant and equipment was shipped in from Norway. The specialist design was prepared by AquaOptima, a Norwegian company. The 60,000ft² warehouse, houses 48 tanks containing a total of 2½million litres of water, served by pipework up to 1 meter in diameter. The entire farming facility, which is computer controlled and run by approximately nine staff, produces 400tonnes of fish per year.
